Why do car insurance companies become defensive when I question their statistics?

I have talked to people and they seem to be arrogant and defensive when I ask them about the statistics want a reason for my rate.they say things like:

They don’t have to justify any rates to any customer.

If I don’t like it I can just not own a car.

Who do car insurance companies think they are?

Apparently these companies feel like they can do whatever they want.
